Roma Victor

AS Roma need three points this Saturday if they wish to keep up with Juventus. The Romans will be entertaining Filippo Inzaghi’s AC Milan at the Stadio Olimpico. There is a domestic difference between both sides AS Roma and AC Milan. Roma look to push Juventus all the way to the end for their quest for a Scudetto. AC Milan on the other hand continues striving to regain entrance into any European competition.

The Giallorossi are currently in 2nd place behind Juventus by only four points and with a victory on Saturday will close that gap to a mere point. The Romans are on a interesting bout of form after crashing out of the UEFA Champions League and parachuting into the Europa League as a consolation. Last Sunday’s 1-0 victory in Genoa hopefully will be a morale boost for the Giallorossi this weekend.

The previous occasion these sides played against each other was back in April of this year 2014 which the Romans were victorious 2-0 in the Olimpico.  In fact the last time the Milanese defeated Roma at the Stadio Olimpico was in October 2011, back to a time when Zlatan Ibrahimovic was playing for the Rossoneri. Not to mention Zlatan scored twice in that match in 2011 but hence the tall Swede has come and gone, to Paris.

AC Milan on the other hand lingers in seventh place in Italy’s Serie A. The Rossoneri look set to battle it out with five other clubs in Italy for the coveted 3rd, 4th, and 5th place position to get into Europe. The Milanese are also going into this match against Roma coming off a massive win against Napoli 2-0 at the San Siro. Milan manager Filippo Inzaghi stated early on Friday on how “aware he is of the atmosphere going into the Olimpico.”

As mentioned earlier the last time the Rossoneri defeated Roma at the Stadio Olimpico was back in 2011. Much has changed in the Serie A since those three years. The football powerhouse that came out of Milan has been overshadowed by Juventus in Turin and Roma out of the capital. This match should be a entertaining one and realistically should be a victory for the Romans. The Giallorossi overall appear to be the more dangerous side particularly in the defense. The Milanese allowed seven more goals than the Romans this campaign and Roma only outscoring the Rossoneri by three goals. One famous roman said it best over 2 thousand years ago and the Roma faithful still utter the same phrase today, "Veni Vidi Vici."
